It’s in the air – the temperature is changing as we near the end of spring and the first hints of balmy days and nights indicate that summer is near. As if on cue, the Covid restrictions have been lifting too and the situation seems to be under control, with more and more Marbella restaurants, cafés, shops, businesses, sports venues, cultural destinations and resort hotels opening up.

Tourists are beginning to arrive too, as the number of routes and flights once again expand and the air fills with the sound of different languages. The authorities have been hard at work too, ensuring that public works are finished on time and the beaches are clean and ready. Many have the European blue flag certification in place, indicating that they confirm to the highest standards of tidiness, hygiene, amenities and also offer a safe, clean environment from an ecological point of view.

The Costa del Sol is therefore ready for summer, with all the required health measures in place too, such as sufficient distancing ensuring visitors to beaches and dining, leisure and nightlife venues have more private space than ever. As normality springs back to life, with sun worshippers and surfers taking to the beaches again and chiringuitos attracting visitors in time-honoured style, local events are also returning to the calendar.

This summer, the famous Starlife Festival in Marbella will feature an impressive list of Spanish and international stars, from Luis Fonsi (of Despasito), Maluma and Pablo Alborán to Bonnie Tyler, Placido Domingo and a long list of DJs, while Sister Sledge will be coming to the new Marbella Arena in Puerto Banús.
