Marbella’s evolving design styles

Like all towns and urban landscapes, Marbella has undergone its share of architectural trends and movements, starting with the traditional Spanish styles first adopted by jet-set homebuilders in the 1950s and 1960s. These soon absorbed international modern influences and thus evolved a fusion of Andalusian/Mediterranean and Modernist styles that became typical of Marbella and surrounding parts of the Costa del Sol.

By the 1970s, some truly spectacular early modern villas, apartment buildings and hotels had arisen, before the cycle reverted to a contemporary interpretation of traditional styles in the 1980s and 1990s. The new millennium was to bring a further development that followed the inspiration of celebrated architect Melvin Villaroël. Though originally from South America, he introduced the sensuous forms and terracotta tones of southern Morocco to the Costa del Sol.

Timeless quality and refinement at La Morera

Fine examples are the luxurious Kempinski resort hotel near Estepona and of course La Morera Playa itself, which features the signature tonality and flowing shapes of Melvin Villaroël. The past years have seen a return to the right-angled minimalism of white-plastered modern villas and apartments, but such has been its proliferation that the market is already growing a little tired of it, with a fusion of modern and classic Mediterranean elements now becoming the preferred style across the Costa del Sol.

Now that Mediterranean rooflines, architectural detailing, natural building materials and less minimalist designs are becoming increasingly in vogue, the space, quality, setting and style offered by the luxurious apartments and penthouses for sale at La Morera Playa is more valued than ever, and as a result few homes remain available here now.

Given the refined styling, beautiful materials used, the spacious interiors and terraces, and the sublime setting within a private beachside parkland landscape, this is hardly surprising. So get in touch with us if this sounds like a slice of Marbella paradise to you too, but don’t wait too long, La Morera Playa is selling fast.
